Creshema Murray, Ph.D., serves as a tenured Associate Professor of Corporate Communications in the Communications faculty at the University of Houston-Downtown, where she also held the position of Special Assistant to the President and Coordinator of the Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies program. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Organizational Communication and Management, Master of Arts in Communication Studies focusing on cross-cultural friendships and women in the workplace, and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Social Work, all from The University of Alabama. Her academic career at UHD includes significant contributions to program coordination and administrative leadership, including managing student internships across Houston city departments through a partnership with the Mayor's Office. Dr. Murray was a founding faculty fellow for the Center for Critical Race Studies and participated in teaching circles, Open Educational Resources initiatives, and faculty senate activities.
Dr. Murray's research specializations encompass organizational communication, critical race theory, destructive organizational communication, women in the workplace, and cross-cultural friendships. Key publications include 'Transparency and Problem Solving: The UHD Experience' (2016, co-authored with YuanYuan Kang, John Kelly, and Adriana Visbal), which details problem-centered learning at UHD; 'African American Female Executives Organizational Experiences: Managing Success, Support, and Workplace Relationship Satisfaction'; 'The Image of African-American Females in Advertising: A Content Analysis of African-American Magazines in 2007'; 'Curricular Goals, Music and Pacing: The Case Study for Hip Hop Music in Children's Educational Television'; and 'Deep-learning practices in the Hispanic-serving and minority-serving context'. She has presented at conferences including the Southern States Communication Association. Dr. Murray served as immediate past chair of the National Communication Association Black Caucus, is a member of Leadership Houston Class XXXVI, and an alumna of the Millennium Leadership Institute.
