Cynthia Taub, MD, MBA, MS, is the Edward C. Reifenstein Endowed Professor of Medicine and Chair of the Department of Medicine at State University of New York Upstate Medical University, Norton College of Medicine. A cardiologist specializing in cardiovascular disease and echocardiography, she earned her MD from Beijing Medical University in 1993, MS in Biology from Dartmouth College in 1996, and MBA from Yale School of Management. She completed residency in Internal Medicine at Jersey Shore University Medical Center from 1998 to 2001, fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at University of Connecticut from 2001 to 2004, and advanced fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital from 2004 to 2005. Board-certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Dr. Taub brings over 30 years of experience across private practice and academic medical centers, with expertise in clinical operations, quality improvement, patient safety, and multidisciplinary program development.
Prior to joining Upstate in 2023, Dr. Taub served as Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine at Dartmouth Health, fostering investigator-initiated research, quality initiatives, and programs in cardio-obstetrics, cardio-oncology, and cardio-orthopedics. She previously held over 13 years at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine as section head of non-invasive cardiology, leading quality integration and cardiac imaging for Cardiothoracic Surgical Trials Network trials. Her research focuses on healthcare access and disparities in underserved populations, advanced cardiac imaging applications, and heart disease in women. With over 100 publications, key works include 'Do patients with severe aortic stenosis and progressive left ventricular ejection fraction decline 50 to 59% remain asymptomatic?' (2026, Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery), 'A Review of Aortic Regurgitation Quantification: Impact of Left Ventricular Compliance' (2025, Sonography), and 'Analyzing the Creation and Use of Abbreviations in Cardiology and Cardiac Imaging Society Guidelines' (2025, JACC: Advances). Dr. Taub received the American Society of Echocardiography's Richard Popp Excellence in Teaching Award in 2022, serves as President Elect and Treasurer of the ASE, chairs national echocardiography guideline committees, and leads studies such as the award-winning work on left bundle branch block induced cardiomyopathy. She has delivered keynote addresses, including at Upstate's 2025 White Coat ceremony, and contributed to public education through podcasts on cardiac amyloidosis.
