Great Professor!
Professor Dagan Feng served as Professor Emeritus in the School of Computer Science at the University of Sydney, Faculty of Engineering, where he was Founding Head of the School of Information Technologies, Director of the Biomedical and Multimedia Information Technology (BMIT) Research Group, and Associate Dean for International IT in the Faculty of Science. He earned his Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering and Computing Science from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1982, Master of Science in Biocybernetics in 1985, and PhD in Computer Science in 1988 from the University of California, Los Angeles. After a brief appointment as Assistant Professor at the University of California, Riverside, he joined the University of Sydney in late 1988, advancing from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer, Reader, Professor, and Head of the Department of Computer Science and School of Information Technologies. He also held positions as Honorary Research Consultant at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Guest Professor at several institutions including Tsinghua University.
Feng specialized in biomedical and multimedia information technology, functional imaging, biomedical systems modeling, medical image analysis, and machine learning for healthcare imaging. He published over 1,000 scholarly papers, including highly cited works such as Medical image classification with convolutional neural network (2014), Accelerating magnetic resonance imaging via deep learning (2016), Fundamentals of content-based image retrieval (2003), Early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease with deep learning (2014), and Multimodal neuroimaging feature learning for multiclass diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease (2014). His research has exceeded 25,000 citations. Feng received the Crump Prize for Excellence in Medical Engineering from UCLA and was a Fellow of the IEEE, Australian Computer Society, Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, Institution of Engineering and Technology, and Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering. He served as Special Area Editor for IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in Biomedicine, Vice-Chair and Chair of the IFAC Technical Committee on Biological and Medical Systems, and delivered over 100 keynote presentations worldwide while organizing numerous international conferences.
