About Dan

Dan Zhao is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He earned a Bachelor of Science in Polymer Materials and Engineering from Zhejiang University in China in 2003, followed by a Master of Science in Polymer Chemistry and Physics from the same institution in 2006. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Inorganic Chemistry at Texas A&M University in the United States in 2010 under the supervision of Professor Hong-Cai Joe Zhou. After postdoctoral training at Argonne National Laboratory, he joined NUS as an Assistant Professor in July 2012. He was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in July 2018 and to Full Professor in January 2025.

Professor Zhao’s research focuses on the design and synthesis of advanced porous materials and hybrid membranes for applications in clean energy and environmental sustainability. His contributions have been recognized by inclusion on the Stanford/Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists list and designation as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate. In academic publishing, he served as Associate Editor of Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research beginning in June 2021 and became its Executive Editor in January 2024. He also served as Conference Co-Chair for the 9th International Conference on Metal-Organic Frameworks & Open Framework Compounds (MOF2024) held in Singapore in July 2024.
