Dana Prodoehl is an Associate Professor in the Department of Languages and Literatures at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, where she also serves as Ad Hoc Program Specialist for the Literature, Writing, and Film program in the Dual Enrollment initiative. She earned her Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from Marquette University and joined the UW-Whitewater faculty in 2011. Prodoehl teaches a range of undergraduate and graduate courses focused on composition and literature, including Introduction to College Writing and Reading (English 101), Freshman English Honors (English 105), The Contemporary Novel (English 263), Fundamentals of English (English 90), Current Theories of Composition for Teachers (English 471), Foundations of English Composition (English 680), and Individual Studies (English 798). Her classes are offered in various formats, such as in-person, online, hybrid, and web-based, often utilizing Canvas for remote instruction.
Prodoehl contributes to pedagogical advancements in writing instruction through her chapter titled 'Flipping First-Year English: Strengthening Teacher-Student Conferencing Through Online Modules,' published by IGI Global. Her research and publications address online pedagogy, social media integration in teaching, and first-year composition practices. She has led faculty workshops at UW-Whitewater, including 'Incorporating Low-Stakes Writing Into Any Sized Class' and 'Designing Effective Writing Assignments,' drawing on her expertise in student writing development. Prodoehl presented a public lecture, 'Revisiting "Uncle Tom's Cabin,"' for University Place on PBS Wisconsin, analyzing Harriet Beecher Stowe's 19th-century novel from historical and modern perspectives, with focus on African American literature and literary representations. Her academic interests span rhetoric, composition, 19th-century American literature, and related fields. Additionally, she has participated in Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC) sessions and contributed to team efforts like LEAP ACTION for kairotic pedagogy in first-year English classrooms.
