About Dandan

Dandan Qiao is an associate professor in the Department of Information Systems and Analytics at the School of Computing, National University of Singapore (NUS). She earned her Ph.D. in Information Systems from Tsinghua University in 2018 and her B.S. in Information Systems from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 2012. Prior to joining NUS as an assistant professor in 2018, she served as a visiting research scholar at the University of Texas at Austin from 2015 to 2017. She was promoted to associate professor in 2024.

Her research focuses on digital platform design and computational social science, with interests including the economics of information systems, online altruism, crowd wisdom, and the social impacts of emerging technologies such as AI and ride-hailing services. Her work has appeared in leading journals including Management Science, Information Systems Research, MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, and Production and Operations Management. Notable publications include studies on AI and jobs, the effects of legal enforcement on darknet transactions, and the impact of incentives on online contributions. She has received the AIS Early Career Award in 2024, the INFORMS ISS Gordon Davis Young Scholar Award in 2023, and research grants from Singapore’s Ministry of Education. Qiao serves as associate editor for MIS Quarterly and Management Science, a member of the Information Systems Research Editorial Review Board, and has held roles such as track co-chair for PACIS and deputy director of the NUS Centre for Computational Social Science and Humanities.
