Dr. Daniel Venetz is a gastroenterologist currently working in the Department of Gastroenterology at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, Western Australia. He holds an MD/PhD, with his PhD associated with Universität Basel in Switzerland. Early in his career, he conducted research at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine in Bellinzona, Switzerland, focusing on chemokine biology and its role in lymphomas. His work included investigations into perivascular expression of chemokines CXCL9 and CXCL12 in primary central nervous system lymphomas, detailed in a 2011 publication in the International Journal of Cancer co-authored with Maurilio Ponzoni, Milena Schiraldi, and others.
Venetz's research has also contributed to understanding lymphoid tissue architecture, as seen in his involvement in a 2020 Nature Communications paper on B cell zone reticular cell microenvironments shaping CXCL13 gradient formation in lymph nodes. Transitioning to clinical gastroenterology, he co-authored a 2019 study in Endoscopy International Open titled 'A novel non-thermal resection tool in endoscopic management of scarred polyps,' collaborating with Patrick Aepli from Luzerner Kantonsspital, Switzerland, and Pradeep Bhandari from Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust. This work explored innovative endoscopic techniques for challenging polyp resections. Additionally, he served as local faculty at the Perth Barrett's Masterclass 2024, chairing sessions on advanced endoscopy for Barrett's esophagus alongside other experts.
