Dr. Danish Mahmud is an Endocrinologist and General Physician holding a public hospital specialist appointment at the Armadale Health Service, part of the East Metropolitan Health Service. His special clinical interests include general endocrinology encompassing thyroid disorders, parathyroid conditions, adrenal diseases, pituitary dysfunction, hypogonadism, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and osteoporosis. Additionally, he focuses on diabetes mellitus management, obesity and weight management strategies, and tackling undifferentiated medical problems that pose diagnostic challenges. As a committed clinician, Dr. Mahmud is a professional member of several esteemed organizations: the Endocrine Society of Australia, the Australian and New Zealand Obesity Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the Internal Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand.
Dr. Mahmud completed his medical training at DOW University of Health Sciences, University of Karachi, Pakistan, prior to relocating to Australia. He attained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2017 and subsequently pursued specialized post-fellowship training in endocrinology at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital. Earlier, he gained experience through general medicine training in Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory. Dr. Mahmud has affiliations with Curtin University, reflected in his co-authorship of clinical abstracts presented at Internal Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand (IMSANZ) scientific meetings. Notable contributions include a 2022 case on Wernicke's encephalopathy following sleeve gastrectomy (with Armadale General Hospital and Curtin University affiliation), a 2021 report on complications from calcium carbonate supplements, and a 2018 audit assessing the safety and effectiveness of radioactive iodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. In recognition of his exceptional compassion, accurate diagnosis, and treatment of a stroke patient with aphasia, Dr. Mahmud was awarded the 7NEWS Health Hero accolade in the 2024 WA Health Excellence Awards.
