Darren Dahl serves as Dean of the UBC Sauder School of Business and holds the title of RBC Financial Group Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of British Columbia. He earned a BCom from the University of Alberta in 1992 and a PhD in Marketing from the University of British Columbia in 1998. Prior to his roles at UBC, he served as Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba from 1998 to 2002, along with visiting positions at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. At UBC Sauder, he progressed through appointments including Associate Professor in 2002, Full Professor in 2007, Senior Associate Dean roles starting in 2012, and Dean since 2022, with the RBC Financial Group Professor of Entrepreneurship title from 2025 onward. His research interests include new product development, creativity, emotions in consumption contexts, social influence, and social marketing. He has taught courses in marketing strategy, consumer behavior, creativity, entrepreneurship, and related topics across BCom, MBA, and PhD programs. Dahl received the 3M National Teaching Fellowship in 2013. He maintains an active publication record in leading journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research and Journal of Marketing Research, with recent and forthcoming papers addressing topics including organizational structure perceptions, innovation, and consumer beliefs about consumption experiences.
Throughout his career, Dahl has supervised numerous PhD students who have placed at institutions including the University of Michigan, Arizona State University, and Nanyang Technological University. He has secured multiple SSHRC grants supporting research on social influence, consumer contagion, and related areas. His professional activities include executive education programs and visiting scholar roles at institutions such as Columbia University, Stanford University, and the University of Sydney.
