Daryl DePry serves as an adjunct professor in the Art and Art History Program at the College of Southern Nevada, contributing to the Arts and Culture faculty since 1999. He teaches courses such as Drawing I, Drawing II, Design Fundamentals (2D), Printmaking, and Art 101. DePry earned his BFA in printmaking and drawing in 1998 and his MFA in printmaking in 2002, both from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His artistic practice centers on printmaking, utilizing techniques including stone lithography, woodcuts, monotypes, intaglio, and letterpress. His subjects range from figurative to abstract landscapes, characterized by layered color and mark-making. Influences include the luminous spectacle of the Las Vegas Strip and Japanese Ukiyo-e and Mokuhanga prints. Recently, he has expanded into plein air oil painting, capturing outdoor experiences in deserts and mountains reminiscent of his Southern California upbringing.
DePry's exhibitions highlight his engagement with the local art community. He presented a solo show, Experiences Outdoors: Landscapes in Paintings and Prints, at the CSN Fine Arts Gallery from September 22 to November 18, 2023, accompanied by an artist talk. He has participated in CSN faculty exhibitions, including the 2020-2021 virtual exhibition and the 2024-2025 Art & Art History Faculty Exhibition. Additionally, he co-curated the Lifting the Veil exhibition. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, DePry draws parallels between printmaking processes and geology, emphasizing ritual, repetition, and environmental responsiveness in his work. His portable intaglio press enables on-site printing from his pickup truck, blending teaching, personal exploration, and artistic production.
