Dr David Bartlett is a lecturer in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Griffith University, where he also serves as Director of Postgraduate and Continuing Education and Program Director since 2024. Affiliated with the Arts, Education and Law faculty, he holds an Industry Fellow position at the Griffith Criminology Institute since 2014. His professional experience at Griffith University includes teaching and research contributions since at least 2012, when he received the Group Sessional Staff Award, followed by a Highly Commended Award for dedication to teaching at the 2013 Celebrating Teaching Gala. Bartlett's research assists communities and organisations in preventing and responding to crime while tackling governance, risk, compliance, and regulatory challenges, with a focus on human and environmental factors. He holds qualifications in criminology, psychology, and business, including a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from Griffith University and completion of the Company Directors Course from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Bartlett's scholarly output encompasses key publications such as 'Corporate crime in Australia: The extent of the problem' (2020), the chapter 'Developing and applying a Queensland Crime Harm Index—implications for policing serious and organised crime' (2018), 'Welcome to your first job: expect to be underpaid, bullied, harassed or exploited in some way' (2019), the '2014 Gold Coast community survey: Summary report' (2014), and a chapter on 'What is Crime? Defining and Measuring Criminal Behaviour' in an introduction to criminology textbook (2024). He contributed to funded projects including an Australian Institute of Criminology grant for studying corporate offending dimensions and Queensland Police Service initiatives on the Crime Harm Index and psychometric validation of risk assessment tools like LSI-R:SV. Bartlett supervises PhD research, including projects on rising female imprisonment trends and pathways into cybercrime.
