David R. Rahn serves as a Lecturer in the Management Department within the College of Business at California State University, Chico, a position he has held since 2000. He concurrently directs the E-Incubator program at the Center for Entrepreneurship, guiding students in developing and launching online businesses through experiential learning initiatives. Rahn earned his M.S. degree in 1991, as documented in university accreditation reports. Prior to and in parallel with his academic appointment, he founded and presides over Knowledge Companion LLC since 2006 and Biz Launch Univ since 2014, applying practical business expertise to his teaching and mentorship roles. His instructional portfolio includes courses such as MGMT 304 on human resource management and MGMT 455 focused on entrepreneurship, contributing to programs like the university's proposed Certificate in Entrepreneurship as a full-time temporary lecturer.
Rahn's scholarly contributions encompass two refereed journal publications and numerous presentations at national conferences. He has collaborated on interdisciplinary efforts integrating entrepreneurship with software engineering education, emphasizing agile methodologies and team project assessments. Notable publications include 'Fostering Entrepreneurship in Project-based Software Engineering Courses' (2020 ASEE Annual Conference, co-authored with Kevin Buffardi), 'Implementing the Tech Startup Model: A Retrospective on Year One' (2018 ASEE Annual Conference, co-authored with Kevin Buffardi, William Zamora, and Colleen Robb), and works on learning agile practices through tech startup projects (2017 SIGCSE) and assessing individual contributions in software engineering teams. In professional leadership, Rahn held positions as President and President-Elect of the Association for Business Simulation and Experiential Learning (ABSEL) from 2014 to 2016, Track Chair for the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) in 2016 and 2017, and judge for the USASBE Innovative Educator Award in 2016. Through the E-Incubator, his efforts have supported student innovations, such as the PocketPoints app originating from his classes, enhancing practical business acumen and startup viability at the institution.
