Davina Clarke is an Associate Teaching Professor, Director of the School of Communication, and Course Director for Business Communication in the College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts at Florida International University. With over 15 years of teaching experience across various communication courses, her teaching interests encompass Advanced Business Communication, Nonverbal Communication, and Conflict Management. She earned a Ph.D. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Nova Southeastern University in December 2017, an M.B.A. in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University in June 2010, an M.A. in Communication from Florida Atlantic University in April 2004, a B.A. in Communication with honors from Florida Atlantic University in August 2002, and an A.A. in Mass Communication with honors from Broward Community College in December 2000. Dr. Clarke is certified as a County Mediator by the Florida Supreme Court and volunteers in her community by coaching public speaking and mediating conflicts.
Prior to her appointment at Florida International University in August 2018, Dr. Clarke served as an Adjunct Speech Professor at Broward College from August 2007 to December 2018, Palm Beach State College from August 2010 to August 2018, Keiser University from May 2007 to April 2015, University of Central Florida from January to May 2010, and Florida Metropolitan University from May 2004 to April 2007, as well as a Teaching Assistant at Florida Atlantic University from August 2002 to April 2004. She authored the book Effective Communication in the Business World, published by Kendall Hunt Publishing Company in 2021, which addresses business etiquette, interpersonal communication skills, team communication, business writing, and business presentations. Her conference presentations include “Conflict, Culture and Clergy: A Phenomenological Approach of Jamaican Church Leaders” at the Dispute Resolution Center in Orlando in August 2016, “A Phenomenological Study of Jamaican Church Leaders” at Nova Southeastern University in February 2016, “Impact of Caribbean Cultural Background on Dealing with Family Conflicts” at Florida International University in April 2012, and “A Rhetorical Analysis of Stanton’s Speech at the 1848 Seneca Falls Convention” at Texas Woman’s University in February 2003. Dr. Clarke has received the Who’s Who for Professionals award in 2009, Certificate of Excellence in Teaching from Keiser University in 2008, Teaching Assistantship from Florida Atlantic University in 2002, Lambda Pi Eta honor from Florida Atlantic University in 2002, and National Dean’s List recognitions from Broward College in 2002 and 2000. She was also recognized in FIU’s Celebrating Impact: Faculty Excellence event in the Publishing and the Arts category and received a Teaching Award in the College Assembly.
