About Dawit

Dawit Kumilachew Yimenu is a pharmacist and Doctor of Philosophy candidate in the School of Health and Clinical Sciences at The University of Western Australia, affiliated with the Centre for Optimisation of Medicines. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from the University of Gondar, Ethiopia, in 2015, and his Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Management from Jimma University, Ethiopia, in 2018. Before pursuing his PhD, Dawit held academic positions at the University of Gondar, including assistant lecturer from September 2015 to December 2018, lecturer from December 2018 to February 2022, and assistant professor from February to March 2022. In these roles, he engaged in curriculum development, research supervision, community service, and served on the human research ethics committee.

Dawit’s primary research interests include medicines use evaluation, medicines use optimisation, and pharmacy practice, with expertise in quality use of medicines, polypharmacy, deprescribing, and pharmacoepidemiology. His PhD project examines healthcare system-related factors to optimise medicines use in older adults. He is a recipient of the 2022 University of Western Australia International Fee Scholarship and University Postgraduate Award.
