Dennis Chiessa serves as Associate Professor and Graduate Architecture Program Director in the School of Architecture within the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA) at the University of Texas at Arlington. Appointed as Assistant Professor in 2019, he received a recommendation for promotion to Associate Professor with tenure effective September 1, 2025. A registered architect with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and principal of ch_studio, Chiessa integrates his professional practice with research and teaching. His scholarly focus centers on the reciprocal impact of design and communities, particularly the effects of urban development on underrepresented groups in Fort Worth. He advocates for social equity and diversity in architecture and planning, with a commitment to highlighting Latino contributions to the field. Through creative practice, Chiessa fosters innovative approaches that ensure architectural designs are both functional and socially responsible.
In his teaching, Chiessa leads architecture design studios and encourages students to incorporate diverse perspectives, promoting inclusive design solutions. He advises the Latinos in Architecture (LiA) student organization and has spearheaded community-engaged projects such as the Polytechnic Heights Community-Based Master Plan and the Single-Family House Exhibition presented at the Fort Worth Community Art Center in 2021. His exhibitions have gained recognition at prestigious venues including the Amarillo Museum of Art, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, and the Venezia Architecture Biennale. Chiessa's leadership in the profession is evidenced by numerous honors: the Texas Society of Architects statewide Associate of the Year award in 2021 for exceptional leadership, commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and contributions to the built environment; the 2023 Architectural Educator Award from AIA Dallas; the AIA Fort Worth President's Award in 2020; and the Young Professional Award from AIA Fort Worth in 2019. He actively participates in public panels on urban planning and community engagement in Fort Worth, further extending his influence on regional development and architectural education.
