Derek B. Fox, DVM, PhD, DACVS, serves as Professor of Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery and Section Head of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Missouri Veterinary Health Center within the College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. A graduate of Indiana University for his undergraduate studies, he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University. He completed his surgical residency and earned his PhD in pathobiology, with a focus on cartilage tissue engineering, at the University of Missouri, subsequently joining the faculty there in 2004.
Fox's research specializations include limb alignment and injuries in sporting, performance, and service dogs, as well as limb deformity correction and traumatology. He is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and a member of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society and the AO. Fox lectures nationally and internationally on advanced surgical techniques in canine limb deformity correction and traumatology. His key publications include "Synovial fluid markers of osteoarthritis in dogs" (2001), "Measurement of Femoral Angles in Four Dog Breeds" (2007), "Use of radiographic measures and three-dimensional computed tomography for determination of proximal femoral morphology" (2008), "Nerve growth factor concentrations in the synovial fluid from healthy dogs and dogs with secondary osteoarthritis" (2011), and "Physeal Injuries and Angular Limb Deformities" (2021).
