Dr. Dev Makesar is an Adjunct Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Curtin Medical School, part of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. He also serves as Clinical Associate Professor in Psychiatry at the UWA Medical School, University of Western Australia. Dr. Devendra Janardhan Makesar holds qualifications including MBBS and MD, a Diploma in Psychological Medicine obtained in 2001, MRCPsych (UK), a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Medicine in 2003, a Masters in Healthcare Law and Ethics in 2012, and was awarded FRANZCP in March 2019. His extensive clinical career began in 2007 with Hywel Dda NHS Trust and University Health Board in the United Kingdom, where he advanced through various consultant positions. From 2007 to 2009, he worked as a consultant in General Psychiatry with Powys Local Health Board. Subsequently, from 2009 to 2015, he specialized in Forensic Psychiatry. In 2014 to 2015, he held an Honorary Consultant role in Alcohol and Substance Misuse Services. Between 2015 and 2016, he was Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry and the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team. Since October 2016, Dr. Makesar has been Consultant Psychiatrist in Adult Psychiatry at St John of God Midland Public and Private Hospitals in Perth, Australia.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Makesar maintains adjunct teaching portfolios at both Curtin University and the University of Western Australia, contributing to medical education in psychiatry-related fields. His academic output includes a publication on risperidone-induced priapism, co-authored with J. Thome and published in 2007 in The World Journal of Biological Psychiatry. These roles and experiences underscore his expertise in general adult psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and related areas, with a career spanning both the UK and Australia.
