Dewey Scott-Wiley is a Professor of Theatre and Coordinator of Theatre in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of South Carolina Aiken, where she holds the Pauline F. O'Connell Chair in Fine Arts. She earned her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Carolina in 1994. As head of the performance curriculum at USCA, she leads training in acting and directing for students pursuing the BA in Theatre. Her academic career at USCA has progressed from associate professor to full professor, during which she has directed numerous productions recognized for excellence.
A professional actor and director with extensive regional experience, Dewey Scott-Wiley has worked from Off-Broadway in New York City to The Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C., the Dock Street Theatre in Charleston, South Carolina, and throughout the Southeast. She is a long-time company member at Trustus Theatre in Columbia, South Carolina, where she served as Artistic Director for three seasons. Her directing credits there include Memphis, Rock of Ages, The Flick, Godspell, [title of show], Rent, Hair, Bill W. and Dr. Bob, and world premieres of Big City, The Velvet Weapon, Pine, and The Palace of the Moorish Kings. Dewey Scott-Wiley has been recognized multiple times by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for directing achievements at USCA and received the National Faculty Fellowship in directing in 2010. In 2013, she was awarded the South Carolina Theatre Association's Founders Award, the highest honor for contributions to theatre in the state. She coordinates Directing Initiatives for Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region IV, chaired the Professional Division of the Southeastern Theatre Conference for six years, and served as Past President of the South Carolina Theatre Association. Her leadership and productions have significantly influenced theatre education and professional practice in South Carolina.
