Dharmendra Naidu is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting, Monash Business School, Monash University. He joined the university in July 2016 upon completing his PhD in Accounting from Monash University, where his thesis investigated the association between managerial ability, purchase obligations, and the cost of equity capital. Prior to his doctoral studies, Naidu worked at the University of the South Pacific as a Tutor and Assistant Lecturer, and held degrees including a Master of Commerce by research thesis, Postgraduate Diploma, and Bachelor of Arts from USP. His early professional experience included serving as an Accounts Payable Officer at Shop N Save Supermarket’s Head Office.
Naidu's research specializations encompass archival research in financial accounting, management accounting, and capital markets research, with particular focus on financial reporting quality, investment efficiency, inventory management, purchase obligations, cost of equity capital, value relevance, corporate governance, and supply contracts. His key publications include “Is customers’ financial reporting quality associated with suppliers’ decision to contract?” (with Ranjeeni, The Accounting Review, 2024), “Shhh… do gender-diverse boards prioritize product market concerns over capital market incentives?” (with Ranjeeni, Journal of Business Ethics, 2024), “Did outside directors’ firm-specific accumulated knowledge benefit the firm’s stock performance during COVID-19?” (with Ranjeeni, Australian Journal of Management, 2024), “Do investors undervalue female directors due to gender role stereotypes? Evidence from the United States” (with Ranjeeni, Abacus, 2024), and “Earnings management in the post-IPO years and their impact on the long-run stock performance of foreign versus domestic IPO firms” (with Haman and Lu, Accounting & Finance, 2024). He has also published in the Journal of Corporate Finance. Naidu serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for journals including the British Accounting Review, Accounting & Finance, Australian Journal of Management, and Finance Research Letters. Additionally, he has presented research at the American Accounting Association Conference and the Hawaiʻi Accounting Research Conference, and chaired sessions at AAA conferences. At Monash, he teaches financial accounting, integrated accounting, and related units.
