Diana Brown serves as Department Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Business Administration and Entrepreneurship within the College of Business Administration at Sam Houston State University. She holds a J.D., earned summa cum laude as valedictorian from South Texas College of Law in December 2002, and a B.A. in Managerial Studies from Rice University in December 1996. Prior to her academic career, Brown practiced law extensively in Houston, Texas. From June 2011 to 2014, she was Managing Member of Law Office of Diana Brown, P.L.L.C., litigating commercial transactions, defending real estate professionals, enforcing non-compete agreements, and mediating disputes. Previously, as Senior Associate at Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons L.L.P. from June 2007 to April 2011, she handled insurance coverage opinions, construction defect litigation, and bad faith claims. From May 2003 to January 2007, as Associate at Westmoreland Hall, P.C., she specialized in insurance coverage for marine and energy casualties, including claims from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita exceeding $500 million. Earlier roles included corporate fixed income trading at American General Investment Management and positions at AIM Management.
Since September 2014, Brown has been teaching undergraduate business law courses at Sam Houston State University, including Business Legal Environment, Business Law, Human Resources Law, International Business Law, Negotiation in Business, Managerial Law, Real Estate Law, Cyber Law and E-commerce Regulation, and Advertising and Marketing Law. Her research focuses on emerging issues in insurance law, international litigation, and alternative dispute resolution. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, such as 'Pre-Suit Discovery in Complex Business Litigation' (Review of Business Research, 2019), 'Has Comparative Fault Swallowed Ryan?
