Associate Professor Dimple Quyn is a teaching-focused academic at Curtin University in the School of WASM: Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and a PhD, with a robust research background in chemical engineering fields including coal and biomass gasification, carbon capture, energy technologies, and micronization of pharmaceuticals. Her scholarly work has accumulated over 1,397 citations on Google Scholar, reflecting her influence in advancing understanding of char structure evolution, gasification reactivity, and related processes critical to clean energy production.
Throughout her career at Curtin University, Dimple Quyn has advanced from lecturer to associate professor, serving in key leadership roles such as Director of Learning Futures for the WA School of Mines, Director of Learning and Teaching for WASM: Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering, and Discipline Lead for Chemical Engineering. She has been honored with the University Excellence in Teaching and Innovation Award and received an Honourable Mention in the 2018 Faculty of Science and Engineering Excellence in Teaching Awards. Notable publications include 'Volatilisation and transformation of alkali and alkaline earth metallic species during pyrolysis and gasification of a Victorian brown coal' (Fuel, 2002, with H. Wu and C.Z. Li), 'Effect of Microstructural Changes on Gasification Reactivity of Coal Chars' (Energy & Fuels, 2002), 'Evolution of Char Structure during the Steam Gasification of Biochars' (Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2009), and 'Mechanistic Insights into the Kinetic Compensation Effects during Loy Yang Brown Coal Char Gasification in O2' (Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2021). Her contributions extend to educational presentations, such as the Techtrails talk on chemical engineering, and fostering industry-aligned teaching innovations.
