Dr Dominic Dagbanja is an Associate Professor of International Economic Law in the Law faculty at Curtin University, serving as Co-Director of Learning and Teaching at Curtin Law School. He joined Curtin University in July 2024 from The University of Western Australia Law School, where he held the position of Senior Lecturer in Law, Director of the Business Law Major, and Unit Coordinator of Postgraduate Dissertation Units. Dagbanja holds a PhD in Law from the University of Auckland with a focus on International Investment Law and Investment Treaty Arbitration, an LLM in Government Procurement Law from The George Washington University, an LLM in Transnational Business Practice from University of the Pacific, a Juris Doctor from The University of Western Australia, a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with Linguistics from the University of Ghana, a Qualifying Certificate from Ghana School of Law, and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from The College of Law Australia. He is admitted as a lawyer in both Ghana and Australia.
Dagbanja's prior professional experience includes practicing as a Junior Associate at Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah in Ghana, Assistant State Attorney at Ghana's Attorney-General’s Department and Ministry of Justice, and Senior Legal Officer at the Public Procurement Authority of Ghana. He has also worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at The University of Manchester School of Law, Lecturer in Law at Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, and held research and internship positions in the United States. His research interests encompass international economic law, international investment law, investment treaty arbitration, public procurement law, and corporate law, with a particular emphasis on the implications of investment treaties for public interest regulation in Africa. He authored the book The Investment Treaty Regime and Public Interest Regulation in Africa (Oxford University Press, 2022) and has published articles in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of International Economic Law, Cambridge Law Journal, Journal of World Investment and Trade, Oxford University Commonwealth Law Journal, and Transnational Legal Theory. Among his honors are the University of Western Australia Law School Early-Career Research Award Special Commendation and the 2020 United Nations Conference on Trade and Development - Society of International Economic Law Award for Research on Investment and Development for his article on the intersection of public procurement law and international investment law. Dagbanja is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Research Fellow in the African Procurement Law Unit at Stellenbosch University.
