Dwarka Chakravarty, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Management in the Management Department at San Diego State University's Fowler College of Business. He teaches strategic management to undergraduate and master's students. Chakravarty earned his Ph.D. in International Business from the Ivey Business School at Western University in 2018 and his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. Prior to his academic career, he served as a director with Microsoft in the Philippines and India. He also worked with Accenture and KPMG in the United Kingdom as a consulting program manager and a strategy consultant.
Chakravarty's research specializes in multinational enterprise strategy, including global cities, regional management, emerging market multinationals, foreign direct investment, corporate governance, and internationalization strategies. His publications have appeared in prominent journals such as the Journal of Management, Journal of World Business, Thunderbird International Business Review, and AIB Insights. Key publications include "Using the resource-based view in multinational enterprise research" with P.W. Beamish (Journal of Management, 2021); "Global cities: A multi-disciplinary review and research agenda" with A. Goerzen, M. Musteen, and M. Ahsan (Journal of World Business, 2021); "Multinational enterprise regional management centres: Characteristics and performance" with Y.Y. Hsieh, A.P.J. Schotter, and P.W. His honors include the 2025 Teaching Excellence Award from the Fowler College of Business, tenure and promotion to Associate Professor in 2023, and finalist for the 2019 AOM International Management Division Dissertation Award.
