Eduardo Arellano, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations at the University of Texas at El Paso College of Education. He joined UTEP in 2009 after serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Management and Development at New Mexico State University from 2004 to 2009. Arellano earned his Ph.D. from New Mexico State University in 2001, focusing his dissertation on personal attributes and organizational characteristics that facilitate collaborative efforts between U.S. and Mexican institutions of higher education. His decision to come to UTEP stemmed from the university's commitment to serving Hispanic students and the U.S.-Mexico border community. He has been a faculty member at UTEP for over 15 years, contributing significantly to graduate education, particularly in online master's programs.
Specializing in Higher Education Leadership and Administration, Arellano teaches courses such as Higher Education Organization and Governance, College Student Learning and Development, Legal and Ethical Issues in Higher Education, Higher Education Policy Analysis, and The Community College. He also offers K-20 education courses in research, policy, and evaluation. His research interests include higher education policy analysis, cross-racial interactions among college students in border colleges, the persistence of Latina graduate engineering students at Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and collaborative efforts between U.S. and Mexican higher education institutions. Key publications encompass “A pesar de todo” (Despite Everything): The Persistence of Latina Graduate Engineering Students at a Hispanic-Serving Institution (2015), The Importance of Student Cross-Racial Interactions as Part of College Education: Perceptions of Faculty (2012), So close, and yet so far: Cross-racial interactions among undergraduate students in two neighboring borderland communities (2013), Interactional Diversity in Border Colleges: Perceptions of Undergraduate Students (2009), Does Educational Preparation Match Professional Practice: The Case of Higher Education Policy Analysts (2009), State Higher Education Report Cards: What's in a Grade? (2002), and Facilitating Higher Education Collaborative Efforts Between the United States and México (2005). Arellano serves as a member of the UTEP ADA Advisory Committee. As an online instructor, one of his proudest accomplishments is guiding master's students to pursue doctorates in Higher Education Leadership, enabling them to assume top administrative roles and impact college students more broadly.
