About Elaine

Elaine Lynn-Ee Ho is Provost’s Chair Professor at the Department of Geography and Senior Research Fellow at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore. She serves as Vice-Dean of Research at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Ho holds a D.Phil in Geography from University College London and a Bachelor of Social Sciences with Honours in Geography from the National University of Singapore. Her academic career includes appointments as Professor at NUS since 2022, Associate Professor from 2015 to 2022, Assistant Professor from 2011 to 2015, Lecturer at the University of Leeds from 2008 to 2010, UBC Teaching Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of British Columbia from 2007 to 2008, and ESRC Postdoctoral Fellow at Royal Holloway, University of London.

Ho’s research examines transnational ageing and care in the Asia-Pacific region as well as diaspora engagement and diplomacy, with an overarching focus on citizenship geographies. Key publications include the book Citizens in Motion: Emigration, Immigration and Re-migration Across China’s Borders (Stanford University Press, 2019), which received the Best Book in Global and Transnational Sociology award from the American Sociological Association in 2019, and Care Where You Are: Enabling Singaporeans to Age Well in Place (Straits Times Press, 2018). Recent articles address topics such as citizenship pathways of new immigrants in later life, ageing in networks, and social geographies of emotions. She has received the Provost’s Chair Professor recognition at NUS since 2023 and the Dean’s Chair at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences from 2019 to 2022.
