Eliot Gattegno serves as Professor of the Practice at Northeastern University’s College of Professional Studies, bringing a diverse career encompassing academia, non-profits, and the private sector. Prior to this role, he was General Manager and Vice President of Education at On Deck, where he directed a team that created educational programs supporting the launch of over 1,000 companies that secured more than $1 billion in funding. Gattegno also functioned as Managing Director at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, leading the development and rollout of the school’s Online MBA program. His academic contributions include serving as founding faculty for three new universities in China and as an early faculty member at Minerva University. He maintains affiliation with Northeastern’s Center for the Future of Higher Education and Talent Strategy, contributing to initiatives such as the 2024 report “AI as Collaborator, Agent, and Revolutionary: The Impact of AI on Hiring and Talent Management.” Previously, he held the position of Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives within the College of Professional Studies.
Gattegno earned his doctorate from the University of California, San Diego, along with bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music. A graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy and a Fellow at Harvard University, he excels as a classical musician, having received the world’s most prestigious prize for interpreting contemporary music and earning a Grammy nomination. His performances include collaborations with the New York Philharmonic, appearances at Carnegie Hall, and features on NPR, amassing a global audience exceeding 200 million. As an author, Gattegno has published in distinguished outlets such as Oxford University Press, NBC News, Quartz, and TechCrunch, addressing topics in education, innovation, and leadership.
