Elisa Martin is Professor of Social Work and MSW Program Director at Siena College. She earned her B.S. from Bridgewater State University, M.S.W. from New Mexico Highlands University, and Ph.D. from the University at Albany, State University of New York. Martin began her career at Siena College as Assistant Professor of Social Work, advancing to Associate Professor before her promotion to full Professor. Since spring 2021, she has directed the development of Siena's Master of Social Work program, achieving provisional approval from the New York State Education Department. Her efforts support the college's Franciscan traditions and the profession's commitment to service-oriented education.
Martin's scholarly contributions center on self-care practices for social workers, telehealth policy implications, and interprofessional collaboration in complex care settings. Key publications include co-authorship of "Protecting others from ourselves: self-care in social work educators" in Social Work Education (2022), "Teaching Note—Telehealth on the Fly: Why We Need a Social Work Telehealth Policy" in Journal of Teaching in Social Work (2023), and an article in College Student Journal (volume 55, 2021). She serves as a reviewer for Advances in Social Work. Martin received Siena College's Presidential Award for Excellence and earned tenure with promotion. She co-leads the Interprofessional Practice and Complex Care faculty development workshops and has mentored undergraduate researchers through the CURCA summer program, including projects in 2017. Her involvement spans program milestones, such as the Social Work department's 50th anniversary, and initiatives like hotspotting for super-utilizer patients and feasibility studies for on-site child study centers. Martin's work enhances social work education and practice impact at Siena College and beyond.
