Dr. Elizabeth Rogers serves as Assistant Professor of Counseling in the Department of Education within the Terry B. Rogers College of Education and Social Sciences at West Texas A&M University, a position she assumed in 2022. She earned her Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Texas Tech University in 2019, an M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling from Angelo State University in 2010, and a B.A. in Communication with Secondary Teacher Certification from Angelo State University in 2008. Licensed as a Professional Counselor and Certified School Counselor in Texas, Dr. Rogers coordinates the School Counselling M.Ed. program and teaches courses such as career counseling, counseling theory and techniques, crisis counseling, introduction to school counseling, and school counseling practicum.
Prior to joining West Texas A&M University, Dr. Rogers worked as a school counselor for eight years in Lubbock Independent School District, taught for four years in San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District, and served as an adjunct professor of counseling and interim director of the school counseling program at Lubbock Christian University. Her academic interests include implementing the appropriate role of the school counselor, multicultural counseling, international counseling, counseling special populations in schools, crisis counseling, play therapy, suicidal ideation among youth and adolescents, and using AI in counselor education. An active presenter, she provides professional development for Educational Service Centers in Regions 15, 16, and 17. Dr. Rogers holds key leadership roles, including President of the Texas School Counseling Association since 2017 on its board, various positions on the West Texas Counseling Association board such as president, emerging leader for the International Association for Marriage and Family Counselors, and Texas Counseling Association liaison to the State Board of Educator Certification. Her honors include the 2024 Liz and John Mozola Faculty Excellence Award from West Texas A&M University, 2023 John Shirley Advocacy Award from the Texas Counseling Association, and 2022 Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Counseling Association.
