Dr. Elliot Krop serves as Professor and Interim Department Chair in the Department of Mathematics and Decision Science at Clayton State University within the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from DePaul University in 1996, followed by a Master of Science in Statistics from the same institution in 1997, and culminated in a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2007. At Clayton State University, Krop has established himself as a dedicated educator and researcher, emphasizing mathematics as an entryway to deeper thinking and rigorous argumentation, particularly in graph theory courses.
Krop's research specializes in combinatorics and graph theory, with a focus on problems in the domination of graphs and graph products, Vizing’s conjecture on the domination of product graphs, Grundy domination, Ramsey theory, and games on graphs. His scholarly contributions include publications such as "A Vizing-type result for semi-total domination" co-authored with John Asplund and Randy Davila in Discrete Applied Mathematics in 2019; "Vizing's conjecture: a two-thirds bound for claw-free graphs" in Discrete Applied Mathematics in 2017; "A class of graphs approaching Vizing's conjecture" with Aziz Contractor in Theory and Applications of Graphs in 2016; "Improved bounds for relaxed graceful trees" with Christian Barrientos in Graphs and Combinatorics in 2017; "Grundy domination of forests and the strong product conjecture" with Kayla Bell, Keith Driscoll, and Kimber Wolff in The Electronic Journal of Combinatorics in 2021; and "Almost-rainbow edge-colorings of some small subgraphs" with Irina Krop in Discussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory in 2013. He has presented his research at venues like the Southeastern International Conference on Combinatorics, Graph Theory, and Computing and the American Mathematical Society sectional meetings. Krop has been recognized with the University Professorship from the Clayton State University Foundation in 2015 and the Faculty Award for Excellence from the College of Information and Mathematical Sciences in 2012. Furthermore, he holds the position of Associate Editor for Theory and Applications of Graphs since 2014, served on the Give 4 Dreams committee from 2015 to 2019, and obtained funding for undergraduate research projects, including a $2,400 grant from Clayton State University in 2013-2014.
