About Elmira

Professor Elmira Mikayıl qızı Əliyeva, born on October 26, 1958, in Baku, graduated from the I Medical-Prophylactic Faculty of Azerbaijan Medical University in 1981. She completed her internship in obstetrics and gynecology at the 7th Maternity Hospital from 1981 to 1982. From 1983 to 1985, she worked as a doctor and then as head of the II Obstetrics Department at the Sumgayit Maternity Hospital. Between 1988 and 1990, she served as a senior research fellow at the Institute of Maternity and Child Protection of the Azerbaijan Republic. In 1990, she joined Azerbaijan Medical University as an assistant at the III Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

In 1988, she defended her candidate dissertation at I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University on 'Diagnosis and correction of violations of the fetoplacental system in pregnant women with chronic pyelonephritis and nephropathy,' earning the Candidate of Medical Sciences degree. She further pursued doctoral studies from 1991 to 1997 at the Scientific Center of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Perinatology in Moscow, defending her doctoral dissertation on 'Pathology of labor activity in primiparous women (pathogenesis, clinic, diagnosis, therapy, prevention).' Elected professor in 1999, she headed the III Obstetrics and Gynecology Department until 2002 and has led the I Obstetrics and Gynecology Department since 2012. Under her supervision, 43 candidates and doctors of medical sciences have earned their degrees, including 5 candidates and 3 doctors in the last five years. Professor Əliyeva has authored over 450 scientific publications, including more than 600 works in Azerbaijani and English on obstetrics and gynecology. Recent outputs include a textbook, three teaching aids, 74 articles (five in impact factor journals), and 51 theses. Key works encompass 'Gestoses' (2006), 'Tubal-Peritoneal Infertility' (2006), 'Complex Diagnostic and Treatment Methods of Hirsutism in Endocrine Gynecology' (2014), and 'Features of Formation of Reproductive Function in the Period of Sexual Maturity' (2022). Awarded the title of Honored Doctor by presidential decree in 2012, she serves on the University Scientific Council and Faculty Scientific Council, overseeing patient examinations and contributing to daily clinical conferences.
