About Emile

Professor Emile Bojesen is Professor of Philosophy & Education and Director of Research & Innovation at the University of Winchester. In this senior leadership role, he holds institutional strategic responsibility for the Research Excellence Framework (REF), Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF), and Doctoral Education. He oversees research integrity as the named senior member of staff and maintains close ties with regional employers in line with the university's enterprising focus. Bojesen currently serves as Director of GuildHE Research, elected to the position in January 2025 for a five-year term, having previously chaired the Cathedrals Group Research & Enterprise. Earlier in his career at Winchester, he was Faculty Head of Research and Knowledge Exchange in the Faculty of Education, REF 2021 Unit of Assessment Lead for Education, and one of the institutional Authorised Submitters for REF 2021. These roles underscore his significant contributions to advancing research strategy and quality at both institutional and sector levels.

Bojesen's research specializations encompass philosophy of education, philosophy, literature, educational theory, and history of education. He analyses the basic tenets of the humanist legacy in education, exploring its contradictions, limits, and pervasive influence on educational thought. His scholarly approach also incorporates philosophical and historical research alongside compositional practice in sound. Bojesen has an extensive publication record, with more than 40 articles and book chapters to his name, in addition to editing over half a dozen books and special issues of journals. Key publications include his monograph Forms of Education: Rethinking Educational Experience Against and Outside the Humanist Legacy (Routledge, 2019); peer-reviewed articles such as 'Passive Education' (2016), 'Negative Aesthetic Education' (2016), 'Of Remuant Existence' (2015), 'The Economic Problem of Masochism in Education' (2018), 'Conversation as Educational Research' (2019), 'Derrida and Education Today' (2021), 'Educational Resistance' (2021), 'Ignorance: Aesthetic Unlearning' (2022), and 'Introduction to the Special Issue on Anti-Oedipus at 50' (2022). Through these works and his leadership positions, Bojesen exerts considerable influence in the field of educational philosophy.
