Dr. Emily Grundstad-Hall is Associate Professor of Voice in the Fred and Dinah Gretsch School of Music within the Department of Music at Georgia Southern University. As a soprano, she earned both her Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in vocal performance from Louisiana State University. Her DMA document, titled "All My Pretty Ones by Stephen Paulus; A Song Cycle for Soprano and Piano on a Text by Michael Dennis Browne," demonstrates her scholarly focus on vocal repertoire and performer perspectives in art song cycles. Prior to the 2018 merger that integrated Armstrong State University into Georgia Southern University, she served as Assistant Professor of Music at Armstrong State University. In her current position, she teaches voice lessons as part of the Vocal Arts area, preparing students for performances and academic presentations.
Grundstad-Hall actively engages in performances, lectures, and community initiatives. She presented "Letters from Composers: Musicians Speak" on April 24, 2014, at Armstrong's Fine Arts Auditorium, performing selections by Schubert, Schumann, Bach, Debussy, Puccini, Mozart, and Dominick Argento’s “Letters from Composers,” accompanied by Benjamin Warsaw on piano. On April 2, 2015, she collaborated with Deborah Jamieson, Steve Primatic, and Benjamin Warsaw for "The Emergence of Modernism: Art between the Wars," a performance exploring musical evolution from Debussy to Stravinsky, Weil, Gershwin, Cole Porter, and American jazz. Additional concerts include the Unplugged Trinity Sanctuary series on November 7, 2014, with Benjamin Warsaw, and the Piano in the Arts Series on January 22, 2015, featuring the Great American Songbook alongside Roger Moss and others. In 2018, she co-chaired the Women in the Arts Symposium at the Armstrong Campus, addressing socio-political themes through art. In 2024, she partnered with Georgia Southern University's RiteCare Center to launch the Savannah Songbirds, a therapeutic singing group for individuals with Parkinson’s disease. She has mentored students for symposia presentations on topics such as Fanny Mendelssohn’s biography and mezzo-soprano roles in opera.
