Emily Ross is a Teaching Professor and Director of Introductory Mathematics in the Mathematics and Statistics program at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, part of the Department of Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, and Statistics. She holds a Master of Arts degree from Saint Louis University. Her office is situated in Express Scripts Hall (ESH) 339, with phone contact at (314) 516-6432. Emily Ross has built a sustained career at UMSL, advancing from Assistant Teaching Professor, as noted in the 2012-2013 university bulletin, to her current position. In May 2019, Provost Kristin Sobolik announced her promotion among 25 faculty members from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. As Director, she oversees introductory mathematics program officers and supports foundational courses critical for student success in mathematics and statistics. She actively participates in departmental activities, including compiling alumni newsletters, with acknowledgments in multiple issues for her outstanding contributions.
In university governance, Emily Ross serves as an elected representative for Mathematics and Statistics on the Faculty Senate General Education Committee, with her term extending to 2026. She has advanced teaching practices through technology integration. On November 12, 2010, she co-presented 'Transforming Teaching Using Livescribe SmartPen' with Shahla Peterman at the Focus on Teaching and Technology regional conference. The session demonstrated the use of the Livescribe Pulse Smartpen to produce lectures for an online College Algebra course, enhancing in-class and online instructional strategies.
