Emina Cholich is a part-time Lecturer in the School of Psychological Science at the University of Western Australia. As a clinical psychologist in private practice, she specializes in assessment and therapeutic interventions for neurodivergent individuals and their families, with particular expertise in Autism, ADHD, and complex mental health presentations. Cholich holds a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) from Curtin University and a Master of Applied Psychology (Clinical) from Murdoch University. During her clinical training, she received the National Student of the Year Prize from the Australian Psychological Society (APS) College of Clinical Psychologists in recognition of her research and clinical achievements.
Cholich's career encompasses roles in public hospitals, state disability services, community mental health clinics, and non-governmental organizations, culminating in her current private practice. She advocates for neurodiversity-affirming, evidence-based autism diagnostic and differential assessment processes that empower individuals to embrace their neurotype as a positive identity aspect while addressing neurominority challenges. Her therapeutic approach supports autistic clients in understanding their diagnosis, managing autistic burnout, enhancing self-advocacy and communication skills, fostering meaningful social connections, and creating tailored coping strategies aligned with cognitive, sensory, and personal needs. At UWA, she serves as Unit Coordinator and Lecturer for PSYC5523 Applied Skills in Autism Assessment and Diagnosis in the Graduate Certificate in Autism Diagnosis program. She also co-coordinates seven online microcredential courses on autism assessment and diagnosis across the lifespan, developed in collaboration with the Autism CRC via UWA Plus, which have garnered over 500 enrolments. Cholich has been a board member of the Western Australian Autism Diagnosticians Forum (WAADF) for seven years, currently holding the position of Secretary, and co-chaired its working group that provided input to the 2018 National Guideline for the Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism. She has undertaken outreach initiatives in Indonesia and Lithuania, delivering training to educators on supporting neurodivergent children in mainstream settings and contributing to community programs for parents of autistic children. Additionally, she offers clinical supervision and professional training in neurodivergent-affirming assessment and therapy practices.
