His additional degrees include an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University, an M.S. from Middle Tennessee State University, and a B.S. from the University of Tennessee.

Key publications comprise 'Promotional Effects of Recorded Music and Superstars on Concert Financial Outcomes' in the Journal of Interdisciplinary Economics (2023), which demonstrates that a 20% increase in streaming generates $46,000–$49,000 in incremental revenue per show for top-100 touring artists and an additional $15,000 per show for superstars with Billboard Top-20 songs; 'The Complementary Relationship between Live Performances and Post-Concert Streaming for Top-Performing Artists' in Applied Economics (2023), indicating that live concerts drive incremental streaming for up to ten weeks, with amplified effects for high-demand artists, those with deep catalogs, or mid-career performers; and 'The Heterogeneous Effects of the Music Modernization Act and Co-Occurring Federal Regulation on the Release of New Music in the United States' in the Journal of Applied Business and Economics (2025), showing increased release activity among composers with more credits and younger or female performers. He has received the David Ogilvy Award and the Great Minds Award from the Advertising Research Foundation. Hogue also manages a deceased legacy performing artist and operates a small bluegrass record label nominated for a 2021 Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album.
