Erik C. Taylor is an Associate Professor of Management in the Department of Management at East Carolina University's College of Business, where he has served for eight years. He earned his Ph.D. in management from Louisiana State University, an MBA from East Carolina University, a master's degree in English from Radford University, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Mary Washington. Before entering academia, Taylor held various roles in finance and management at Morgan Stanley, American International Group, and Sylvan Learning, Inc. As a research fellow for the Bureau of Business Research, he specializes in research methods, economic impact studies, and consulting for regional organizations. His scholarly work examines meso-level organizational topics, including team-based phenomena, strategic human resource management, and organizational culture, with a focus on how teams achieve superior performance and how culture shapes collective experiences.
Taylor's research has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Organizational Psychology Review, Human Resource Management Journal, Journal of Business & Psychology, Journal of Occupational & Health Psychology, and Journal of Business Research. Key publications include "Star performers, unit performance and unit turnover: A three-study investigation of the resource-based view" (Human Resource Management Journal, 2021), "Integrating organizational climate theory: A domain representative meta-analysis of multiconstituent climate" (Journal of Applied Psychology, 2023), and "Resource Dependence and NCAA Conference Realignment" (Journal of Business Research, 2018). He co-developed the North Carolina Economic Resilience Index to assess community resilience and economic strengths. Taylor received East Carolina University's 2022 Research & Scholarship Award and Outstanding Scholar recognition. In teaching strategic management capstone courses, he integrates current business news and applied research, co-leads student consulting projects, and advises on leadership and decision-making. He leads study abroad programs, including trips to the Université de Tours in France, to build international research partnerships and global classrooms. His contributions enhance North Carolina's business communities through data-driven insights and effective communication of research findings.
