Eugene J. LeBoeuf is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering in Vanderbilt University's School of Engineering, where he joined the faculty in 1997 and currently serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies in Environmental Engineering. Previously, he acted as associate department chair. His distinguished academic background encompasses a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, an M.S. in Industrial Engineering and Management Science from Northwestern University, an M.S. in Civil Engineering from Stanford University, a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Michigan, and an M.S. in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. Before Vanderbilt, LeBoeuf instructed at the U.S. Army Engineer School in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He teaches courses including water resources engineering, hydrology, and surface water quality modeling. LeBoeuf's research focuses on physicochemical processes in environmental systems and contaminated site remediation, environmental modeling and risk assessment, analysis of surface water and groundwater resources, fate and transport of emerging contaminants, and multi-objective optimization of hydropower generation. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed technical publications and holds four U.S. patents, such as US7534601B2 for capillary perfused bioreactors (2009).
LeBoeuf has received major awards including the National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Award, a faculty research fellowship with Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Environmental Science Division, election as Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers in 2012, Diplomate certification from the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists in 2013, and the Vanderbilt School of Engineering Distinguished Friend Award in 2020. He chairs the awards committee for the ASCE Environmental and Water Resources Institute's Environmental Council. In tandem with his academic career, LeBoeuf serves as a Major General in the U.S. Army Reserve, currently as Commanding General of the 79th Theater Sustainment Command in Los Alamitos, California, and modernization subcommittee chair for the Army Reserve Forces Policy Committee. His military honors encompass the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award. Through his multifaceted contributions, LeBoeuf has profoundly influenced environmental engineering, academic leadership, and national defense strategies.
