Dr. Fatuma Namisango serves as a Lecturer in the School of Information Technology at Murdoch University, where she also holds the position of Academic Chair for Business Information Systems. She obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in Information Systems from the University of Technology Sydney, completing her degree from March 2017 to November 2020. During her time at UTS, she was awarded the 2019 FEIT Post-Thesis Publication Award for her post-thesis research contributions. With over 10 years of experience in higher education teaching, Namisango has developed expertise in business information systems and information technology disciplines.
Her research spans cross-cultural studies in information systems, technology affordances and constraints, social technologies, service co-creation through social media in nonprofit organizations, digital media affordances for health promotion, sociomateriality, and online communities. In recent years, she has focused on sustainability themes, including the integration of sustainability education into information systems curricula and strategies for deriving green competitive advantages in small and medium-sized enterprises. Key publications include "Deriving green competitive advantage in the SMEs: A sustainable firm performance perspective" (Sustainable Futures, 2025), "Online younger viewers' motivation to purchase virtual gifts: multi-group analysis of urban-rural backgrounds" (Aslib Journal of Information Management, 2024), "Sustainability education in information systems’ curricula: A conceptual research framework" (Education and Information Technologies, 2024), "Integrating Sustainability Education into the Information Systems Curricula: Perspectives from Information Systems Academics in Australian Universities" (ACIS 2024), and contributions to works on intellectual capital in professional service firms and knowledge co-creation in social networks. Her scholarship has amassed over 390 citations on Google Scholar. Namisango engages in impactful projects such as greening the IT industry and participates in collaborations on federated learning privacy preservation and sustainable supply chains. She supervises postgraduate students and advances teaching through her roles at Murdoch University.
