About Federico

Federico Rossi is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at the University of Warwick. He obtained his PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics in 2017, MRes in Economics from the London School of Economics in 2013, MSc (Laurea Magistrale) in Statistics from the University of Bologna in 2011, and BA (Laurea) in Economics from the University of Bologna in 2009. His research specializes in macroeconomics, development economics, human capital, and inequality. Previously, he held the position of Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Warwick from 2018 to 2023 and at Johns Hopkins University SAIS from 2017 to 2019.

Rossi has published several influential papers in top economics journals. Notable works include 'The Human Side of Structural Transformation' with Tommaso Porzio and Gabriella Santangelo in the American Economic Review (2022), 'The Relative Efficiency of Skilled Labor across Countries: Measurement and Interpretation' in the American Economic Review (2022), 'Parents, Schools and Human Capital Differences across Countries' with Marta De Philippis in the Journal of the European Economic Association (2021), and 'Human Capital and Macro-Economic Development: A Review of the Evidence' in the World Bank Research Observer (2020). He has secured major funding, including the ERC Starting Grant as Principal Investigator for 'HUMANDEV - Human Capital, the Organization of Production, and Economic Development' (2024-2029), IGC Small Research Grant (2023), and STEG Small Research Grant (2021). His honors also encompass the Stiglitz Essay Prize (3rd place, 2016), LABOUR Prize (2015), and several scholarships. Rossi serves as Associate Editor for Economica since 2023, contributes to program committees for the Econometric Society European Meeting and Royal Economic Society Annual Conference, and referees for leading journals such as Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Studies, and Quarterly Journal of Economics. He is a Consultant for the World Bank since 2018, Research Associate at the Centre for Macroeconomics since 2017, and teaches PhD-level Advanced Macroeconomic Analysis, Applied Macroeconomics, and other macroeconomics courses at Warwick.
