Dr. Feifei Tong serves as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Southern Cross University, where she was a Senior Lecturer from 2022 to 2024. She earned her PhD in Engineering from the University of Western Australia in 2014, a Master of Engineering from Dalian University of Technology in 2010, and a Bachelor of Engineering from Sichuan University in 2007. Tong also holds a Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching from the University of Western Australia, obtained in 2018.
Tong's research expertise spans fundamental and theoretical fluid dynamics, computational fluid dynamics, ocean engineering, water resources engineering, hydrology, hydrodynamics, hydraulic engineering, fluid-structure interactions, and hydrological hazards such as floods and avalanches. Her extensive publication record features highly cited works including 'Three-dimensional direct numerical simulation of wake transitions of a circular cylinder' (Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2016), 'Numerical simulations of steady flow past two cylinders in staggered arrangements' (Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2015), 'The vortex shedding around four circular cylinders in an in-line square configuration' (Physics of Fluids, 2014), 'Flow-induced vibrations of a D-section prism at a low Reynolds number' (Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2022), and 'Numerical simulation of two-degree-of-freedom vortex-induced vibration of a circular cylinder between two lateral plane walls in steady currents' (Journal of Fluids Engineering, 2012). With over 900 citations across her publications, Tong's contributions have notably advanced knowledge in fluid mechanics and engineering applications. She has held industry positions as an Engineer at the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (2019-2022) and Hydrodynamics Engineer at Carnegie Clean Energy (2019), and taught courses such as Introduction to Design of Offshore Systems and Structural Dynamics at the University of Western Australia.
Currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Adelaide's School of Civil Engineering and Construction, Tong serves on the Queensland Water Engineering Panel (Engineers Australia, 2023-2024) and the Western Australia Hydrology and Water Resources Panel (2022).
