Frances Chang is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management at Macquarie University Business School, where she heads the Innovation, Strategy and Entrepreneurship major. Previously, she served as Course Director for the Master of Commerce Program. She earned her PhD from Macquarie University and an MBA from the University of Dubuque, USA. Prior to academia, Chang held senior positions in marketing, advertising, and management at multinational corporations. Her teaching spans entrepreneurship, small business management, business models, and internationalisation across undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, and GMBA levels.
Chang's research centres on entrepreneurial networks, entrepreneurship, internationalisation, and small businesses. Her publications appear in leading journals such as Journal of Small Business Management, Journal of Management and Organization, Journal of Business Research, and Journal of Innovation and Knowledge. Notable works include 'Influence of innovativeness, environmental competitiveness and government, industry and professional networks on SME export likelihood' (Journal of Small Business Management, 2019; 84 citations), 'Pre and post-entry resource needs for international entrepreneurs: The role of government and industry networks' (Journal of Management & Organization, 2017; 35 citations), 'Entrepreneurs' network bricolage: Reconfiguring social ties to create resources during COVID-19' (Journal of Business Research, 2024), and 'The mediating and moderating roles of entrepreneurship education in the perceived acquisition of entrepreneurial learning and knowledge' (Journal of Innovation and Knowledge, 2025). She has presented at conferences including Academy of Management and Academy of International Business, and held visiting positions at Goettingen University (Germany), Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Colombia), and Shanghai International Studies University (China). Chang received the Macquarie Business School Teaching Excellence Award in 2019 and 2021, is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), and has won two Teaching Leadership grants. She serves on the Ryde City Council’s Economic Development Advisory Committee.
