Professor Francis Fatoye, Research Professor of Health Economics and Outcomes in the Department of Health Professions at Manchester Metropolitan University, is a distinguished physiotherapist and health economist. He earned his BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, MSc in Sports Medicine from the University of Nottingham, MSc in Health Economics and Health Policy from the University of Birmingham, PhD in Musculoskeletal and Health Outcomes Assessment from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, and MBA from Ondo State University, Nigeria. Prior to academia, he worked as a Senior Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist. Since joining Manchester Metropolitan University in 2006 as Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy, he has advanced through roles including Programme Leader for MSc Professional Practice Development (2010-2015), Research Group Lead (2014-2017), Deputy Head of Faculty Research Degrees (2016-2019), and currently serves as Director of the Centre for Health, Psychology and Communities since 2018. He co-led the university's REF2021 submission for Allied Health Professions.
Fatoye's research focuses on health economics and evaluations, global health economics, outcomes research, health technology assessment, musculoskeletal disorders, and real-world evidence. He is Associate Editor of BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders and serves on editorial boards for Expert Review of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, Physical and Occupational Therapy in Pediatrics, and Nigerian Journal of Medical Rehabilitation. His scholarly contributions include over 100 publications, such as "Fracture Care by Traditional Bonesetters: Insights from a Lower-Middle-Income Country" (2026), "Clinical Assessments and Exercise Protocols to Improve Abdominal Muscle Endurance During Pregnancy and Postpartum" (2026), and "Knee Joint Kinematics in Healthy Children and Children With Hypermobility Syndrome" (2012). Fatoye has examined multiple PhD theses and served as external examiner for master's programmes at Keele University and Qatar University. He received the Distinguished Alumnus award from the University of Ibadan and delivered his Inaugural Lecture in 2017. Additionally, he has advised panels for NIHR/HTA and Astellas Pharma, and consulted for Abacus International and Teesside University.
