Gang Chen is an Adjunct Professor (Research) at the Centre for Health Economics, Monash Business School, Monash University, a position held since July 2024. He earned his PhD from the Centre for Health Economics, Faculty of Business and Economics, Monash University in April 2013, a Master of Management Science from the School of Public Policy and Administration, Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2007, and a Bachelor of Medicine from the School of Medicine, Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2004. His career at Monash progressed from Senior Research Fellow (2016-2018) to Associate Professor (2018-2024) at the Centre for Health Economics. Previously, he served as Research Fellow at the Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer and Flinders Health Economics Group, School of Medicine, Flinders University (2012-2016), with full academic status as Senior Lecturer (2016-2018) in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and Associate Professor/Reader (2018-2022) in the College of Medicine and Public Health. Earlier, he was Research Fellow at the China Center for Health Economic Research, Guanghua School of Management, Peking University (2007-2009).
Gang Chen's research specializations include health economics, quality of life, health preferences, subjective wellbeing, economic evaluation, health policy, and systems. He has received the Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) fellowship (2018), Dean's Award for Excellence in Research by an Early Career Researcher, Monash Business School (2017), Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Early Career Researchers, Flinders University (2014, 2015), International Health Economics Association (iHEA) Student Paper Award Runner Up (2011), Dean’s Postgraduate Research Excellence Award, Faculty of Business and Economics, Monash University (2009-2012), Donald Cochrane Postgraduate Research Scholarship (2009), and Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (2009). Currently, he serves as Vice President of the Australian Health Economics Society (2022-2025).
