Dr. Garry Dine serves as a Lecturer in the Curtin School of Population Health within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia. Additionally, he holds an Adjunct Lecturer position in the School of Medical and Health Sciences at Edith Cowan University. With a professional career spanning over 25 years in occupational and environmental health since 1999, Dr. Dine has demonstrated leadership in managing environmental health services for local governments for more than 10 years. He is recognized for his expertise in occupational health and safety, having provided and managed such services across Australia for over 20 years. His robust academic credentials include a Doctor of Philosophy from Edith Cowan University awarded in 2023, a Master of Occupational Health and Safety from the University of Newcastle in 2012, a Master of Public Health from Curtin University of Technology in 2006, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health from the same institution in 2005, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health also from Curtin University of Technology in 2004.
Dr. Dine's primary research interests lie in occupational exposures among environmental health practitioners, with a focus on identifying and mitigating occupational health and safety risks faced by environmental health officers in various settings, including Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. His scholarly contributions include several peer-reviewed journal articles, such as "An innovative and meaningful scaffolded curriculum approach to Environmental Health education in Western Australia" published in Frontiers in Education in 2024, "Workplace Hazards Impacting the Environmental Health Workforce: A Study Among Practitioners in the United States" in the Journal of Environmental Health in 2024, "Identified occupational health and safety risks amongst environmental health officers in Australia and New Zealand through an online survey" in Medicine in 2023, "A Retrospective Analysis of Workplace Incidents Data Among Environmental Health Officers (EHOS) Collected From 73 Local Governments" in the Asia Pacific Environmental and Occupational Health Journal in 2022, and "Occupational Health and Safety issues faced by environmental health practitioners: A perspective from Western Australia" in the Journal of Environmental Health in 2021. Furthermore, Dr. Dine is engaged in practical research through a grant-funded project titled "Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) testing as a novel methodology in the evaluation of hygiene procedures and microbial contamination in food premises handling ready-to-eat foods," supported by the Local Health Authorities Analytical Committee with funding of $13,602 for the period 2026-2027. He also contributes to higher degree research supervision, currently serving as Assistant Supervisor for a Doctor of Philosophy student investigating ATP testing methodologies.
