Dr. Gary Reyes is a Professor of Psychology and emeritus faculty member in the Psychology department at Northland Pioneer College, where he joined in 2001. His comprehensive academic background includes an Associate of Science degree from the Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelor of Arts from Park College, a Master of Arts from Chapman University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology from Northern Arizona University. Throughout his over two-decade tenure at the college, Dr. Reyes has taught a range of foundational and advanced psychology courses across multiple campuses and sessions. Notable examples include PSY101: Introduction to Psychology in various terms such as Spring 2024, Spring 2018, and Fall 2013; PSY240: Developmental Psychology in Fall 2021; PSY250 in Fall 2015; and PSY270: Abnormal Psychology in Fall 2012. His instruction has taken place at locations including Show Low Campus, Littlefield Campus, and other sites, contributing significantly to the psychology curriculum offered to undergraduate students.
Beyond his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Reyes practices as a licensed psychologist with a small private practice in Phoenix, Arizona. In this capacity, he specializes in disability law, conducting psychological evaluations to assess limitations stemming from trauma or mental illness, and he works within the field of forensics. This professional engagement allows him to bring practical, real-world expertise into the classroom, bridging theoretical psychology with clinical applications for the benefit of Northland Pioneer College students. Dr. Reyes demonstrates commitment to professional growth through participation in specialized training, including completion of two online conferences on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: one covering the General Basics of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the other focusing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy associated with Depression. In recognition of his long-term dedication and contributions, Dr. Reyes was presented with the Faculty Emeritus Award by Vice President of Learning Support Services Mike Solomonson during the Navajo County Community College District Governing Board meeting on May 21, 2024.
