About Gavin

Professor Gavin Hesketh is a Professor of Physics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at University College London. He completed a BSc in physics at the University of Manchester and a PhD in particle physics. He joined UCL in 2010 as a Royal Society University Research Fellow, initially working on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. In 2018, his research focus shifted to precision muon experiments, including the Muon g-2 experiment and the Mu3e experiment. He currently serves as Head of High Energy Physics at UCL, Physics Coordinator for the Mu3e Experiment, and EDM Search Co-convener on Muon g-2. As an experimental particle physicist, his work centers on searches for physics beyond the Standard Model through precision measurements involving muons. He leads the Masters-level particle physics course PHAS0072 at UCL. Hesketh is the author of the popular science book The Particle Zoo, published in 2016.
