Dr. Gelaye Nadew serves as a Lecturer in the Curtin School of Nursing, part of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University in Perth, Australia. He possesses a Bachelor of Science (BSc), Master of Science in Nursing (MScNg), Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Oceania University of Medicine, and a PhD from the University of Adelaide, completed under the principal supervision of Professor Alexander McFarlane between 2000 and 2008. Nadew also holds a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Leadership. His academic career includes positions at Curtin University within the Office of the Provost portfolio, where he contributes to teaching and research in nursing. Previously, he was associated with Oceania University of Medicine and served as a Health Adviser for the IBN Group in 2012-13.
Nadew's research specializations center on mental health nursing, with a focus on falls prevention in psychiatric inpatient settings and the psychosocial impacts of trauma. Key publications include the 2023 systematic review 'Factors associated with risk of falling among younger inpatients in a mental health setting—A systematic review,' co-authored with Irene Ngune, Seng Giap Marcus Ang, and Rosemary Saunders, and published in the Journal of Clinical Nursing. This study identifies risk factors for falls among younger mental health inpatients.
