Genevieve Scanlan is a Subject Librarian at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. She supports academic staff and students across multiple disciplines, including Economics, English, Irish and Scottish Studies, Linguistics, Management, Marketing, and Tourism. Her role involves providing specialized research assistance, developing subject-specific LibGuides, and facilitating access to library resources tailored to the needs of the Humanities and Commerce divisions. Scanlan earned her Master of Arts in English from the University of Otago in 2014, with a thesis entitled "'she who connects': Unity of Self & World in the Novels of Robin Hyde." This work explores themes of unity between self and world in the novels of the New Zealand author Robin Hyde. She also holds a Master of Information Studies from Victoria University of Wellington, equipping her with expertise in library and information science. Prior to her current position, Scanlan was a postgraduate student in the English Department at Otago, where she engaged deeply with literary studies.
In addition to her librarianship, Scanlan contributes to New Zealand's literary scene as a reviewer and poet. Her poetry reviews have appeared in Landfall Tauraka Review, HAMSTER magazine, and The Rochford Street Review.
