Great Professor!
Professor Georgina Such is a Professor in the School of Chemistry and Associate Dean (Diversity, Inclusion and Women in Science) in the Faculty of Science at the University of Melbourne. A Bachelor of Science graduate from the University of Melbourne, she obtained her PhD from the University of New South Wales in 2006. She joined the University of Melbourne in 2013 as an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow in the School of Chemistry, advancing through positions including Senior Research Fellow to her current professorial role, where she leads her own research team.
Such's research centers on polymer chemistry, stimuli-responsive materials, and the design of polymer-based nanoparticles for drug and vaccine delivery. Her work addresses challenges such as endosomal escape to enhance intracellular therapeutic delivery, with applications in targeted treatments including for cancer. She has authored over 65 peer-reviewed publications and three book chapters, accumulating more than 12,000 citations. Key publications include "Engineered hydrogen-bonded polymer multilayers: from assembly to biomedical applications" (Chemical Society Reviews, 2011), "Engineering Particles for Therapeutic Delivery: Concepts, Pitfalls and Advances" (ACS Nano, 2012), "pH-Responsive Transferrin-pHlexi Particles Capable of Targeting the Endolysosome for Enhanced siRNA Delivery" (ACS Macro Letters, 2017), "Overcoming Challenges of the Bio-Nano Interface" (Polymers, 2019), and "Self-Immolative Polymer Nanoparticles with Precise and Predictable Disassembly" (Biomacromolecules, 2023). Her honors include the ARC Future Fellowship, the 2018 Selby Research Award from the Selby Scientific Foundation, and awards from the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. Additionally, she leads the Faculty of Science Women in Science Network since 2018 and the Athena SWAN program, promoting diversity and increasing female representation in STEM.
