Gina Cinanni is a Lecturer in the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry at Curtin University, serving as Major Lead for Visual Culture in the Open Universities Australia program and Academic Coordinator for the Art component of the BA (Visual Culture). She obtained her BA (Art) and Postgraduate Diploma in Art and Design from Curtin University in 1986. Since 1999, Cinanni has been involved in delivering online art education, playing an instrumental role in the implementation and ongoing development of the online Fine Art degree. As former Chair of OUA Studies in the School of Design and Art, she has led the advancement of eLearning in art education in Australia. Her teaching encompasses units such as VAR250 Introduction to Art and VIS18 Key Concepts in the Introduction to Art History.
Cinanni's commitment to innovative pedagogy earned her the 1999 Curtin University Innovative Teaching Practice Award, shared with Pamela Gaunt, Annette Seeman, and Moira Doropoulos for 'Developing a collaborative and productive learning environment: A Team Approach' in the Fibre/Textiles Studio, Department of Art. Her publication record includes the co-authored article 'Assessing the Image: Creative Practice in an Online Learning Environment' published in The International Journal of the Image, Volume 4, Issue 2, pages 95-107 (2014), with Anna Nazzari and Moira Doropoulos. Creative works feature 'Tracing Histories iii' (2022), alongside exhibitions like Dirt Feeling at the John Curtin Gallery, Flawless Measures with 'Corruption: File System Error I', and contributions to Transmigrations. As a practicing artist since 1986, her works are held in the Art Gallery of Western Australia collection. She has documented the history of artist associations in Perth post-1960 through the Situation Vacant project and presented on the Bead Research Fellow Online pilot project in 2004.
